The Democrats of Amherst strive for a safe and inclusive community.

We condemn violence — both physical and verbal. We are saddened by the recent increase in attacks on Asian Americans, including the murders in Georgia. When another shooter took more lives in Colorado, we received the news with more grief and worry. In our own community, we have been disheartened by ongoing threats against a recent high school graduate who has spent the past year serving in the state legislature as a Democratic representative from Amherst.

Amherst is a community of friends and neighbors, of kids who go to school together, of people who help each other during snowstorms and go to the polls together on Election Day. The Democrats of Amherst are forging ahead to work with our neighbors for the values and quality of life that brought us all to this town in the first place.

We support preserving the town’s rural character, as outlined in the town master plan, by protecting our clean water and open spaces.

We support public education and the progress that comes from newfound knowledge. Amherst’s high standards for education and its excellent schools not only support our children but also protect homeowners’ investment in their properties.

We support balanced budgets and reducing property tax burden wherever possible — this is one reason we oppose school vouchers, which siphon money away from public schools and force towns to raise property taxes to cover their school budgets. We support the right to vote for every citizen. We know New Hampshire has a long, proud history of expertly conducted elections, staffed by dedicated town residents.

We are profoundly grateful to be part of such a beautiful community
