• Tell Laurie Sanborn: Support HB121. Here’s the tricky part: The committee that heard it made a bad recommendation. Here’s what you say in your email or call to Rep. Sanborn: “Please support HB121 by voting Nay to the committee’s recommendation to table (“ITL”) this bill.

This bipartisan bill would establish an independent redistricting commission to prevent gerrymandering. We want the House to vote down the committee’s recommendation to table this bill. In other words, we don’t want this bill tabled (rejected, or “ITL’ed”).

Got More Than 60 Seconds?

If you’ve got more than 60 seconds, read on, because unprecedented changes are brewing in our state under one-party Republican rule that we can’t afford to ignore.

First: The Good News: What We Achieved Last Week 

HB20 stalled! This school voucher bill would defund public schools and result in higher property taxes. Read this Op-Ed signed by more than 40 local high school students to learn more about HB20. This victory gives us hope, but please stay tuned, because this terrible bill will be back soon.

HB60 defeated! This bill, which would have essentially criminalized certain crucial health care options for transgender youth, was voted ITL (Inexpedient to Legislate), and we expect the House to vote the same—in which case, the bill should go no further this legislative session.

Next: More Action Options This Week

Oppose HB 544: This bill would prohibit training and discussion on unconscious bias, including on sexism and racism. The bill would stifle efforts to address these problems. Register your OPPOSITION here.

Support HB111: This bill creates common-sense police accountability when individual or civil rights have been violated. (Currently, addressing misconduct is often difficult because the police are shielded by immunity.) The House Judiciary Committee hears this bill on Tuesday, February 3. Register your SUPPORT here up until Tuesday at 8 a.m.
